Restoration works on an old wall in Cospicua, opposite Vitoriosa’sCouvre Port, which have been slammed on social media for being seemingly done with cement, are a temporary intervention to prevent the wall from causing danger, according to Cospicua Mayor Alison Zerafa Civelli.

After a post was shared on social media showing Cospicua’s antique stones being restored with what seemed like cement, The Malta Independent contacted the town’s mayor to find out more about the situation.

“We were getting reports from residents that the wall was dangerous,” she said, “pieces of rock were falling.” Our reports were submitted and the Works Division came to do temporary work in order to remove the danger,” she continued.

“There is proper restoration work planned on that area in the future from the side of the Government so what is happening there is temporary in order to prevent danger,” she informed.

When contacted, Executive President of Din L-Art Helwa Maria Grazia Cassar said that it is something which should not be made a fuss of. “Restoration projects have been more than excellent,” she said, adding that they should be praised and encouraged.”

She said that although the current situation of this Cospicua wall is not a “solution”, however stated her belief that it is “probably temporary.”
