Relikc to release debut album

Monday, 10 July 2017, 13:02 Last update: about 8 years ago

Relikc will be releasing their debut album, The Code of Antics on 21 July. To celebrate the launch, the members of Relikc are organising a live music event, showcasing the album before launching its distribution, at the beautiful Madliena Lodge Lounge & Restaurant, in Madliena.

Relikc's roots date back to when the members were still in school in their early teens. Having performed together in various permutations of bands and line-ups, the founding members eventually gravitated towards each other in 2007. During the first few years, Relikc focused mostly on being present in the local live music scene. Along the way they also periodically wrote, recorded and released a number of original songs which were released as singles, as well as some music videos. While the members were having the time of their lives playing gigs and large-scale festivals, they always knew they wanted to write and release more original music.

In 2015, Relikc released a four-track EP titled It's Not Misspelt, a comedic title, taking a jab at the unconventional spelling of the band name, Relikc. The EP contained a number of songs that they had been saving for a future album, however, the members soon realized that they had grown from their school years, and their writing style had matured towards a more refined and consistent genre. They decided it was best to release the songs as an EP and start over with a totally fresh outlook. Three music videos were also released to the public alongside the EP, keeping the band busy for most of the year.

Late 2016 the members went into an intense period of songwriting, exploring their roots of funk, soul and pop in order to write the songs for their debut album, The Code of Antics. You could say that the members derived their inspiration from what they enjoyed doing most, that is, giving audiences a good time during their live performances with fun and dance-worthy songs. Keeping this goal in mind, ideas were bounced off each other and various songs written, until a list of the 10 best songs was selected from the "pile".

Relikc sought the help of Kenny D'Ugo (Beehive Productions) for the production, recording and mixing of the album, which was done at Jubox Recording House, a studio owned by Relikc's guitarist, Luke Grech. Finally, the tracks were mastered by the renowned Geoff Pesche at Abbey Road Studios, in London. Interestingly, the album features a line-up of a whopping 13 musicians, including a horn section, additional singers and a percussionist.

The Code of Antics is Relikc's debut album and is set to be released on 21 July. The band is currently in the final process of organising a memorable event at Madliena Lodge Restaurant and Lounge, in order to celebrate the launch. During the event the band will play the entire album back to back, as well as some other songs by their favourite bands and influences.

Strut (Papa's Got The Cash) is Relikc's first single off the album. Alongside the single, Relikc also released a music video, produced by Maka Visuals. The video, which is fully animated, features an adorable corgi as he woos his crush and goes through great lengths to do so.
