Saturday, 15 July 2017, 18:18 Last update: about 8 years ago

The Emergency Response & Rescue Corps (ERRC) said in a satatement that over a hundred swimmers had to be rescued today at Blue Lagoon.

The ERRC together with the MTA would like to reassure the public that swimming at the Blue Lagoon is safe as long as they abide by the safety swimming procedures within the designated swimming zone and respect the signal flags that the ERRC sets each day.

"Today over a hundred swimmers had to be rescued as rip currents dragged swimmers who were taken by surprise and the use of two rescue boats had to be deployed to ensure the safety of all swimmers. The Emergency Response & Rescue Corps (ERRC) is a Gozo-based voluntary, charitable and non-profit organization that aims to prevent and alleviate emergency situations involving people at risk."

"The ERRC lifeguarding service in Gozo and Comino is made possible due to financial support from the Malta Tourist Authority. Support is also being provided by the Ministry for Gozo, Mgarr Marina, Transport Malta, Malta Police, Armed Forces of Malta, and the Civil Protection Department."
