PN Leadership candidate Adrian Delia this morning expressed his opinion against legalising recreational marijuana use.

Delia was replying to questions by the press following a news conference at the skate park near the University of Malta.

He stated that he does not agree with Health Minister Chris Fearne's stance that marijuana use is a personal choice, explaining that the drug has ripple effects. Delia explained that age is a factor in this matter, and if young people use marijuana, it could very well affect their family and those around them and added that the age factor in debate will make the issue more "sensitive".

Delia mentioned that studies have shown the drug to have negative effects.

Replying to another question by the press, Delia said that he will publish his declaration of assets only when/if he becomes PN Leader. He said that he is not obliged by law to do so, and will publish them only once he becomes a 'public person'.

"Once I become a public person, I will publish my declaration of assets in the shortest time possible," he said.

In the news conference, the PN leadership hopeful listed his proposals regarding youth and families in relation to standard of living. Delia said that at present, with the income of most youth and young families in relation to the standard of living, money made is merely enough get by, he said that in the near future there will be "difficult keeping up," "we need to start thinking about these problems from now," he said,  referring to this situation as a 'new type of poverty'.

Delia proposed a tax reform for those families who pay rent, as well as rebates to support those who are struggling, as well as family-planning programmes, sociological stufies to measure poverty, and an increase in social benefits for those individuals who are caretakers to a vulnerable individual within their home.
