The University of Malta's Institute of Space Sciences and Astronomy, in collaboration with the Astronomical Society of Malta, will be organising an observation night event to view the partial lunar eclipse that will be visible from Malta during moonrise tomorrow, 7 August. The event is being organised at Ahrax tal-Mellieha, close to the Immaculate Conception Chapel.
Members of the Institute and of the Astronomical Society shall be present on site to guide all those attending. Telescopes will be set up, however the partial eclipse itself, for which the highlight will be at 8.20pm local time, is easily visible with the naked eye. Later on in the night, attendees will also be observing the planets Jupiter and Saturn as well as some nebulae and star clusters.
Lecturers and students from the Institute will be present on site to speak to prospective students about their research areas within the Institute. Amateur astronomers from within the Astronomical Society will also be available to assist all those interested in starting out in amateur astronomy.
