Wednesday, 30 August 2017, 12:00 Last update: about 8 years ago

Maltese athletes from the Malta Weightlifting Association are in Brisbane on a weeklong training camp at the Cougars Weightlifting Club from 26 August to 3 September before they head to the Gold Coast to fight for qualification for the Commonwealth Games.

They are Jessica Edge, who competed in the last edition of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, as well as Kieran Mifsud and Kyle Micallef, who are both in their final preparations alongside several Australian athletes, before they compete at the Commonwealth Championships between 3 and 9 September.

All three athletes are looking strong and aiming for good performances in their respective categories. This is their final chance to secure a place at the Commonwealth Games in 2018, which will be held at the same location next year.

These championships have attracted more than 400 athletes from 35 different countries.

The training camp is supported by the IWF while the competition is supported by MOC and SportMalta.
