Contraband cigarettes, drugs and counterfeit funds intercepted by customs officials last week

Last week was a busy one for customs officials stationed at the central mail room at the Qormi post office, a statement read.

A package from Canada containing 12 marijuana packets and two aluminium foil packets containing blue pills were found. The packages were passed over to the police.

Another package was intercepted containing marijuana, and a parcel which arrived from China contained 10 packets holding a total of 1,024 $100 counterfeit notes (a total of $102,400 counterfeit notes.

The Customs Department's campaign against the importation, sale and consumption of contraband entered its sixth week. "Last week, 4,226 contraband cigaretted were seized, 2,600 of which were intercepted at the airport before entering the market. 1,626 cigarettes were removed from the market from shops in St Julian's, Paola and Zebbug."
