Another day of traffic: an account of delays and frustration

Thursday, 5 October 2017, 09:30 Last update: about 8 years ago

It has been another morning of frustration for thousands of drivers who try to reach their destination – and are stuck in long delays on a road system that cannot withstand the amount of cars on the road.

The social media this morning once again has been inundated with comments from drivers remarking about the length of time it has taken them to go from one place to another.

One driver reported a two-hour drive from Mosta to Kordin, another took 50 minutes to go from Fgura to nearby Paola, someone else needed one and a half hours from Cospicua to Luqa and another driver said it took him nearly two hours from Marsascala to Gzira.

Many more said that they were stuck, motionless, on the same road for several minutes, and when they moved, it was only by a few inches.

The rain does not help, the opening of schools, University and MCAST makes matters worse, and public transport is still not reliable, especially on days like these. Buses get stuck in traffic jams too, and like other vehicles take much longer to complete a journey than is necessary.

In all this, one wonders how many hours of work are being lost as employees arrive late for their duties, and how many students are also arriving late for their lessons.
