Friday, 20 October 2017, 13:21 Last update: about 7 years ago

Members of the San Anton School community are being urged to take part in a walk that will be held to honour the family of Daphne Caruana Galizia, who was killed in car bomb attack on Monday.

Her sons, Matthew, Andrew and Paul, were all students of San Anton School.

"They are members of our community, who with their mother's death have too become victims of this most brutal attack," the organisers said.

"We implore all students, alumni, parents, teachers and members of the San Anton community - past and present - to join us in walking to show our support for Daphne's grieving family."

Children of all ages are being encouraged to attend the peaceful vigil and to to bring a drawing, card or flowers for the family, to be placed at the foot of the Great Siege Monument in Valletta.

The walk will start on Sunday at around 2:45pm from City Gate. Those attending will proceed down Republic Street to the monument opposite the law courts, where the children and all members of the community may place their drawings, cards and flowers.

"We echo the sentiments of Ian Mifsud, the Director General of the Directorate for Quality and Standards in Education, who said, "My plea to each and every one of us, is to be cognisant of the beacon we represent to so many youngsters, encouraging our interactions within formal education to inspire love, creativity and critical thinking, epitomised in the pursuit of a meaningful life within a just and better world."

The organisers emphasised that this is a non-political and peaceful walk organised by alumni and parents of current students to show support for the entire family.
