Daphne’s murder: Media houses unite – ‘The pen conquers fear’

Sunday, 22 October 2017, 07:00 Last update: about 7 years ago

On the first Sunday following the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, all media houses joined in a show of unity against intimidation by sharing a common front page.

Without publishing any stories, the newspapers on their front pages carried a black banner with the words “The pen conquers” fear, or its equivalent in Maltese.

It is an unprecedented occasion, in which all media houses are expressing their solidarity with their slain colleague and at the same time showing their intention to continue pursuing truth.

Last Thursday, some 200 journalists took part in a demonstration in Valletta, following which they also filed a court case urging the magistrate investigating the assassination to protect Daphne’s sources.
