Former Labour MP Anthony Zammit died today, aged 67.

Zammit had served as MP between 2008 and 2013.

In a statement, the Labour Party said that Zammit will be remembered for his contribution to politics and also to the health sector.

The PL said that Zammit was also involved in culture and arts.

The Nationalist Party also expressed its sorrow.

In a statement, former Labour leader Alfred Sant said that the news of Zammit's death is indeed saddening. "He was a genuine friend," Sant said.

Together with others, "he was the man who helped me, encouraged me and took care of me when my health took a big blow," Sant said, referring to the time when he had been diagnosed with cancer on the eve of the 2008 election.

"Without his skill, gentleness and ettention I would not have been saved," he said.

Sant said he also admired Zammit's political wisdom, and his valuable ideas on the health sector.

Sant said he also admired Zammit when he paid him a visit a few weeks ago. "I hope I have the same courage if I am in his position," Sant said.

"Thank you for everything, my friend," Sant said.
