The President of the Chamber of Advocates, George Hyzler, said that it appears that the police are not doing their job as they failed to act and launch an investigation into very serious allegations.
Interviewed by The Malta Independent News Editor Rachel Attard, Hyzler commented on the mounting calls for the Police Commissioner Lawrence Cutajar to resign, especially after the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. Hyzler said that having the Police Commissioner sacked will not undermine the rule of law.
“From what it appears, at least from the outside, the police are not taking necessary action,” he added.
“If a person is not acting accordingly, then that person should be fired. That goes with, not against the rule of law. In a normal country, things would move differently.”
The full interview will be uploaded tomorrow.
