Saturday, 11 November 2017, 17:00 Last update: about 7 years ago

Adriana Cassar, 29, General Manager, ZARA (Malta) and Gerhardt John Camilleri, 30, Business Development & Client Relations Executive, NIU Ltd held their ceremony at St Paul’s Metropolitan Cathedral, Mdina followed by a reception at Palazzo Parisio, Naxxar (2 October 2016)

Adriana and Gerhardt had been together as a couple for almost 12 years. They both wanted to get married but kept postponing for no particular reason. However, the most magical proposal took Adriana by surprise, in 2012.While she was very busy with her studies, Gerhardt was secretly planning a 10-day holiday to two different countries: Spain, a place Adriana is passionate about, and Paris in France, a city she always wanted to visit. Adriana arrived at the airport not knowing where she was heading. "It was with pleasure that she lined up for the flight for Seville but she was overjoyed to get to know that after a few days we would be flying to Paris", Gerhardt recalled.

The proposal While planning the trip, Gerhardt also went about buying the engagement ring and was very anxious to propose, but managed to hold on to his excitement until they arrived in Paris. That had always been the plan. The big question was popped soon after landing in Paris.

For their first stroll in the city they went to the Arc de Triumph. While Adriana was concentrating totally on taking pictures, Gerhardt was getting very agitated, since the big moment was drawing nearer. Moments later, Adriana turned round and found him on one knee and he said: "Adriana, I want to share my life with you, will you be my wife?" Adriana was stunned and tears of happiness flowed from her eyes. She was so excited that she could not make herself reply immediately, but without any doubt, she replied yes.

The Wedding

They got married on Sunday, October 2nd, 2016, at St Paul's Metropolitan Cathedral, Mdina. They had always wanted to get married in Mdina, both believed that it was going to be very difficult marry there, but luckily for them it was quite easy. Palazzo Parisio was Adriana's dream venue and they wanted a venue that offered both a great outdoor and indoor setting, so Palazzo Parisio was the perfect venue for them, as it offers exceptional inside and outside locations.

Since both the church and the reception venue are quite ornate, there was no need to have a lot of decorations. They just added some hydrangea, gypsophila and white roses at both venues. A touch of blush was also added to the floral decorations at Palazzo Parisio.

Wedding AttireAdriana walked down the aisle in an A-line dress made with layers of tulle decorated with lots of crystals and featuring a sweet-heart top. She chose the dress of her dreams from Ivory & Co. Adriana wanted a vintage touch so she added a long bubble veil and a headpiece by Pronovias and completed the look with a pair of Armani champagne satin shoes, from Sarto.

While Gerhardt got his blue suit and the suits for all the groomsmen from JD Formal wear. The mother of the bride wore a splendid, silver-grey long dress from BVR-The Boutique, and Adriana's sister wore a very unique and colourful dress from Koko, both added an elegant touch to the wedding's style.

The theme was blush and blues for both bride and groom's team.  »Wedding DetailsThe invitations, which were designed by their best man (cousin) Matthew Cassar and printed by Boo&Co, replicated the blush and blues colour scheme. They invited some 500 people, all were family and close friends from around the world. In fact, they decided that the sermon would be given in English, while the prayers of the faithful would be read in different languages, Maltese, English, Italian and Spanish to make everyone feel at home.

Adriana and Gerhardt wanted people to have fun dancing while celebrating their big day together. "Looking back, we were amazed at certain guests whom we never thought we would see dancing the night away!

Everyone seemed to be looking forward to our big day especially since they waited 12 years for this to happen," the couple remembered, fondly. Music is one of the most important elements to make a wedding day a memorable one, and the couple made sure that the music was planned perfectly.

So, they left this in the hands of the bravo maestro Paul Borg and his band, Versatile Brass, joined by singers Amber Bondin and Glenn Vella and DJ Nathan Darmanin to close off the party. Their first dance was Say You Won't Let Go, by James Arthur sung by their friend Gianluca Bezzina and Adriana's witness, Louise Ann Bugeja Tate. Rather than souvenirs, Adriana and Gerhardt gave a donation to Living Waters, who do a lot of virtuous work in Ethiopia.

It is one of Adriana's dreams to go for a voluntary mission in a third world country, so they felt that this would be a good initiative. Traditional perlini were given to guests as a sign of appreciation. They completed their celebrations with a lovely break on the island of Capri, off the coast of Amalfi, Italy.
