David Casa has pulled out of the race for the post of Nationalist Party secretary general, the MEP said on his Facebook page.

Casa was being mentioned as one of the possible candidates for the post.

But today the longest-serving MEP – he has been elected every time since 2004 – has decided not to run for thr job.

“I am ready and willing to serve as PN Secretary General. However, in light of recent events and following discussions with my colleagues and PN Leader Adrian Delia, I am convinced that - now more than ever - it is my duty to keep serving the Party and the country in the European Parliament.

“I wish to thank the many people within the executive and other party structures who were willing to support my bid.

“Together with Roberta and Francis I believe we can make a positive difference here in Brussels, standing up for what is right and just. Together - we will see better days for the Party and for Malta.”

Pierre Portelli now becomes the favourite to take on the position that is currently occupied by Rosette Thake.
