Roberta Metsola was the best performing Maltese MEP over the past three years according to a ranking algorithm created by MEPRanking.eu, which also shows that Malta’s women MEPs are outdoing the men.

Metsola ranked 34th out of the European Parliament’s 750 MEPs, with a score of 95.9.

Miriam Dalli ranked 57th in the EP and 2nd overall with a score of 84.2.

Marlene Mizzi obtained a score of 55.2, ranking third on a national level and 155th in the EP.

David Casa got a score of 42.4, landing the 236th spot in the EP and fourth among the six Maltese MEPs.

With a score of 14.0, Alfred Sant ranked 5th locally and 544th in the EP.

Francis Zammit Dimech, who only became an MEP shortly after the general election, got a score of 1.5, ranking sixth locally and 728th in the EP.

Metsola was recently named as one of the ’40 MEPs that matter’ by European news outlet Politico.eu.

When scores are weighted and MEPs divided by member state, Malta's MEPs rank second overall across the EU, with an average value of 884.10. The EP average is 474.83.  

The rankings, which are updated every week, are also based on each parliamentarian's reports, statements, roles and attendance record when calculating their effectiveness. 

Marlene Mizzi, has locally scored the highest for asking questions, reaching a total of 601 questions. Giving her a score of 9.64 for productivity placing her 12th among all MEPs.

David Casa, meanwhile scored the highest for expressing the largest amount of opinions -12 - over the past three years.

Miriam Dalli dominates when it comes to involvement in drafting reports, having been involved in 14 since June 2014.

Attendance is also assessed, with Alfred Sant attending 98% of all plenary sessions. All local MEPs bar Zammit Dimech have been present for more than 90% of MEP roll-call votes.
