A Polish man died in hospital after being lifted out of the sea in an unconscious state at Ghajn Tuffieha, the police said today.

The 32-year-old man found himself in difficulty while swimming, and was lifted out of the water by people who were in the area.

He was taken to hospital where he was certified dead some time later.

Magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo is conducting an inquiry.
