Malta to support WHO through innovative online training to Government officials globally

Saturday, 9 December 2017, 09:59 Last update: about 7 years ago

Malta will support the World Health Organization's 'WHO Global Strategy and Action Plan on Ageing and Health' by providing an initial Global Online Training Programme on Ageing and Health, a statement read.

"This was agreed upon last Thursday during a formal meeting between Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and John Beard, the World Health Organization's Director for Ageing and Life Course."

"The plan was unanimously adopted by WHO's Member States at the World Health Assembly in May 2016. It provides a policy framework to ensure that societal responses to population ageing are aligned with an ambitious development agenda. The strategy is built on a new conceptualization of healthy ageing outlined in the WHO World Report on Ageing and Health 2015. Rather than focusing on the absence of disease, the strategy considers healthy ageing from the perspective of the functional abilities that enable older people to be and do what they have reason to value. In kick-starting the strategy's implementation, the Republic of Malta will - on behalf of WHO - establish an inclusive and innovative initial online learning programme for Government officials, civic society leadership, as well as for WHO staff globally."
