The Customs Department has seized undeclared cash from a man coming from Singapore at the Malta International Airport.

"Whilst screening passengers arriving from Istanbul at MIA, customs officials stopped a Singapore national after passing through the Green Channel (nothing to declare).  The passenger's luggage was passed through an x-ray machine and it was flagged as suspicious.  Following a search of the passenger and his luggage, €16,500 as well as 2,397 Singapore Dollars were found."

The Police Economic Crime Unit was promptly informed and the equivalent of €10,000 was returned to the passenger, with the rest being withheld pending investigations.

The passenger was taken by the Police and is expected to be arraigned in court this week.
