This year's Valletta New Year's Eve celebrations are set to be the biggest yet, organisers said, with 70,000 people expected to attend.

Speaking at a press conference this morning on the event stage itself, V18 Chairman Jason Micallef unveiled details of the upcoming festivities.

The event will host performances by both local and international artists. People will celebrate this year's countdown in a dynamic, animated way, through displays of light and sound. The V8 Chairman said that he was positive about what they had prepared.

"The capital's journey is just about to begin" Micallef said, adding that like other countries around the world Malta will also have its own space where everyone can celebrate the New Year.

The celebrations, which are to be held this Sunday, will start at 8pm and will end at 2 am.

This year's programme is jam packed with local artists such as The Brass House; Gianluca Bezzina and Eleanor. In addition UK artists like Ember Trio  will also take part in the event. Owen Spiteri, from G7 events said that a ballerina will be performing an aerial show over the crowd. DJs will then  begin their sets after 12:30 am.

Transport Malta will also adjust their service for the New Year 's Eve event, Micallef informed. Public transport will be running into the early hours of the morning on Monday; buses will be leaving Valletta to all destinations till 4am. Sea travel (the ferry from Valletta to Cottinera and Valletta to Sliema) will also run till the early hours.

Culture Minister Owen Bonnici said this year's celebrations would be broadcast live on television for those unable to attend.

The minister thanked everyone for the collaboration between the MTA and the Valletta 2018, stating that without their collaboration the event would not take place.
