Updated: Ghaxaq man charged with attempted murder after stabbing incident; bail rejected

A 37-year-old man from Ghaxaq was today denied bail after pleading not guilty to attempted murder.

Daniel Mizzi was arrested in connection with an incident that took place during the night in Ghaxaq. The police said a man had been arrested after a stabbing incident that took place in Rebbiegha Street at 3am. The victim was a 26-year-old man, who is also from Ghaxaq. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

Before Magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo, Mizzi was charged with attempting to kill a man by stabbing him multiple times, causing him grievous injuries, breaching the peace, making threats and being in possession of a knife without a license. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The court heard how the accused is unemployed and has a drug problem.

 

The court requested the director of prisons to administer a medical exam and give Mizzi the necessary treatment.
