Friday, 12 January 2018, 09:11 Last update: about 7 years ago

For the second time in as many days, famous actress Meryl Streep mentioned slain journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia as she spoke about journalists being “under siege” when being interviewed about her new film The Post.

During an interview on CNN (above), Streep mentioned Caruana Galizia “famously… the woman who brought out the Panama Papers… in Malta.”

“The bad guys will always want to shut us down,” Streep told host Christiane Amanpour, flanked by Tom Hanks who is the main protagonist in the film, directed by Steven Spielberg.

Speaking earlier at the International Press Freedom Awards (video below), Streep paid “tribute to the journalists who paid the hardest price for their questions this year: Daphne Caruana Galizia, Kim Wall, Tatyana Felgengauer... I salute you, and your equally brave male colleagues, and thank you all”.

The Post depicts the journalists from The Washington Post and The New York Times who published the Pentagon Papers regarding the covert involvement of the United States government during the Vietnam War.
