The court today denied a bail request made by a man who returned to the car park he was barred from entering for six months, after he was found guilty earlier this month of impersonating a car park attendant in order to collect a fee from drivers using the parking spaces in the area.
The ‘attendant’ was discovered earlier today in the car park, located near Hastings Gardens, by an on-duty police officer who had been informed by a member of the public that he had returned to the area.
Edward Farrugia, 37 from Valletta, had received a €500 fine in the previous case and had been warned that he could face prison sentence if he persisted.
Transport Malta previously said that it repeatedly asked Farrugia to stop however this request fell on deaf ears, leading the entity to file two separate cases against him.
The accused pleaded not guilty with his lawyer Joe Ellis requesting bail for his client.
Inspector Jeffrey Scicluna, who was representing the prosecution, argued that Farrugia repeatedly breached the court order, and did not provide police officers with his correct address.
The court, which was presided over by Magistrate Anthony Vella, denied the bail request and referred the case to Magistrate Joe Mifsud, who presided over Farrugia's previous case.
