23,307 MRI tests were carried out at Mater Dei Hospital in 2017, Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne said while addressing a Joint Surgical and Radiological Symposium.
This symposium was aimed at bringing more understanding as to how radiology can further assist surgery.
Fearne said that as a doctor he remembers the first CT scan at St Luke's Hospital being used once a week. Redilogy has made giant leaps forward since then, he said, and is essential for consultants to make a more precise diagnosis.
The number of CT scans, he said, rose from 18,000 in 2010 to 37,757 in 2017. He said that over the past years, the Medical Imaging Department at Mater Dei Hospital saw large investment.
