Reading Ambassadors spread the love of reading at Birkirkara Primary School

Tuesday, 20 February 2018, 09:56 Last update: about 7 years ago

Throughout this year, Reading Ambassadors are visiting primary schools across Malta and Gozo to promote reading. One of the most recent activities was held last month at Birkirkara Primary school, St Theresa College. The Reading Ambassadors Kurt Calleja, Taryn Mamo Cefai and Simon Farrugia read and discussed a book with Year 4 pupils.

During these activities, coordinated by the National Literacy Agency, the Reading Ambassadors read to different classes, in either Maltese or English, and then discuss the book with the students. Following the reading sessions, a number of students ask the Ambassadors various questions related to reading and their experiences during a lively Q&A segment involving the whole school.

The diverse group of Ambassadors includes authors, singers, actors, footballers, presenters, broadcasters and journalists. Last year, the Agency organized 25 Reading Ambassadors activities, involving 1,205 pupils, during which 550 books were donated. This programme is being organized with the support of Agenda Bookshop.
