PN MP ‘can’t understand’ why government did not include ‘unborn child’ in domestic violence bill’

PN MP Claudio Grech, in Parliament today, said he could not understand why government voted against a motion to re-introduce the term 'unborn child' into the list of domestic violence victims.

He was referring to a committee debate held yesterday, regarding the domestic violence bill, which will update existing law.

During the plenary debate on the issue, a number of Opposition MPs could not understand why government, in their bill, decided to remove the unborn from the list, and since then the PN had presented the aforementioned amendment, which hadn’t passed.

He said that this decision by government was inconsistent with what government said, that they wanted to widen the scope of the act. He said that the PN is against all forms of violence and spoke of the need to strengthen legislation against domestic violence.
