UHM Voice of the Workers has issued directives to the cafeteria attendants on Gozo Channel Ferries to stop serving hot drinks from Monday, over issues concerning their work hours.

In a statement, the union explained that it has been in discussions with the contractor who employs the workers, along with the Gozo Channel corporate structure, over the past couple of months regarding the matter, however, the work hours actually began to get worse.

“Currently, there are certain shifts which require two attendants to deal with the number of passengers. However, a number of attendants are working shifts on their own throughout the week including weekend trips. They are even asked to work three nights after another and not be granted rest days.”

“These workers have their rights and deserve better shift distribution so they can perform their duties efficiently without any risks related to health and safety.”

The directives will continue until the necessary arrangements to rosters and working hours are made.
