The Civil Society Network (CSN) is calling for the resignation of Valletta 18 Chairman Jason Micallef, after he posted a comment on social media about slain journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.
Last Saturday, Micallef posted a picture of the crowds that gathered in St Julain's to celebrate St Patrick's Day, and in a twist of the last words written by the journalist herself, Micallef wrote: "St Patrick's Day in Malta. The situation is desperate. There are happy people everywhere you look."
The V18 chairman, in the same post, attacked activists' freedom of speech by suggesting that they should be stopped from protesting.
CSN said Mr Micallef's 'divisive and insensitive attitude' was not worthy of the state official heading the European Capital City of Culture, adding that Micallef should therefore resign.
