Government launches call for a sports scholarship scheme

Parliamentary Secretary Clifton Grima today launched a call for sports scholarship grants aimed to assist Maltese athletes. The call for applications opens Wednesday and closes on 20 April.

Since 2012 the government has invested €720,000 in 80 grants that focus on studies and professional training locally or abroad. This year the grants scheme for sporting scholarships provides funds for high-performance athletes and people who work with athletes to conduct training programmes or courses of at least 100 hours spread over four consecutive weeks or  a programme of study leading to MQF levels 5 to 8.

The Parliamentary Secretary said the government continues to encourage the professional development of all those involved in sports and sports management field.

Scholarships in the past have contributed to both scholarly and professional training including more PhDs in sports medicine, sports psychology, management courses in the field of sport, courses, coaching and training in various sports disciplines including badminton, waterpolo and weightlifting.

Applications may be submitted online at myscholarship.gov.mt until 20 April, 2018.
