A 53-year-old Austrian man was left seriously injured this afternoon when he was hit by a van on Tower Road, Sliema.

The vehicle, a Peugeot Partner, was being driven by as 35-year-old Italian man who lives in Mgarr.  The incident took place at around 2.30pm.  The victim is receiving treatment at Mater Dei Hospital.

The police said they are investigating.
