Air Malta will start operating a weekly (Tuesday) flight to Kiev, the Capital city of Ukraine as from 19 June. This new scheduled service announced during a state visit to the Ukrainian capital by Malta’s President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca last October will offer visa free travel to both Ukrainians visitors and Maltese tourists wishing to explore this beautiful country.

Paul Sies Chief Commercial Officer stated, "Kiev is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Europe. Through the introduction of this route we are now increasing our services to Eastern Europe and in the process we are consolidating our position in this region. We shall be tapping into a new market which will stimulate more passenger traffic between both countries. This announcement is another achievement and further good news from Air Malta that is continuing to expand for the benefit of the local tourism industry and the population of the islands who now have more opportunities to discover new destinations.”

Air Malta’s Chairman Dr Charles Mangion commented, “Today we are launching our new route to Kiev, one of the 15 new routes which have been announced. Ukraine is a welcome addition to Air Malta’s 33 other destinations for this summer. With an ambitious schedule in place, the airline will be operating 4,155 (+30%) more flights than last year. Together with our partners, the tour operators, travel agents and other stakeholders the airline and its motivated workforce are working hard to ensure success and fill up all the capacity we are floating on the market whilst enhancing tourism opportunities and supporting other economic sectors important to the island’s development.”

With so many wonderful parks and outstanding tree lined boulevards it is no wonder that Kiev is also considered as one the greenest capital cities in Europe. Its skyline dominated by golden domes of cathedrals and monasteries is definitely a unique attraction. Religion is an integral part of the local cultural heritage of the Ukrainian citizens and this is heavily corroborated by the presence of splendid churches and monasteries adorned with rich architecture and superb ornate interiors.

Walking through the streets of the Old town of Kiev is an excellent opportunity to explore all the major attractions of the city, such as the Golden gates, Sirotkin House, Khreschatyk Street, The Independence Square (Maidan Nezalezhnosti), St. Michael’s Cathedral, St. Sophia’s Cathedral and St. Andrew’s Church. Visiting these iconic landmarks will help one to get to know more about the history of Ukraine.

Ukraine has also rich history of irresistible traditional cuisine renowned for scrumptious dishes and delicious desserts. The flight schedule will operate as follows: Tuesday KM dep Malta 15:00 Arr Kiev 18:15, KM dep Kiev 19:05 Arr Malta 22:15
