Back from Australia, the prime minister today visited Marsa and announced that the old tunnel underneath what was the Marsa Power Station will be turned into a datacentre for an Indian telecom company linking India to the United States and the rest of the world. In contrast to the old, smelly and polluting power station, this will be a clean investment.

Dr Muscat also referred to the problems the residents have with migrants. He said he is kept informed at all hours by the residents. The situation is the same not just in Marsa but also in Hamrun, in Birzebbuga, in Qawra etc.

These people have come to Malta to work. If he were to listen to some people, he would send all migrants back. But then who will do their work? The situation must not be allowed to fall into the hands of the extreme Right wingers who would turn it into a racist issue.

On the contrary, the law must be the same for all, Maltese or migrant and enforcement must apply to all. The community must identify who are the good people around and build on them.

During his visit to Australia he met many people who had migrated to that country many years ago and made a success of their lives. Now the grandchildren of these people want to come back to Malta and work here, thus closing the circle.

Dr  Muscat wished the Maltese athletes in the Commonwealth Games all success. He admitted he does not have the real Olympic spirit in him for he likes to win every time. There are sports in which the Maltese already excel and these sports must be helped further.

Noting the recent statistics about poverty, Dr Muscat said his government is eradicating poverty; unemployment has fallen to just around 2,000 and we can be considered to have full employment.

Minister Joe Mizzi announced the completion of the first turbine project in Montenegro and the start of public consultation in Malta, Sicily and Italy with regards to the gas pipeline.
