Zurrieq double-decker crash worse than Paqpaqli accident - paramedics

Paramedics often encounter horrific scenes when dealing with road accidents but the macabre scene they found in Zurrieq on Monday shocked even the most experienced among them.

One top paramedic said the Zurrieq double-decker crash, which claimed the lives of two tourists and injured 50 others, was one of the worst scenes he had ever seen, even worse than the Paqpaqli ghall-Istrina crash.

On Monday evening, health minister Chris Fearne had said that most of the serious injuries were head and neck wounds.

Paramedics were quick on the scene of last Monday’s accident, seeing a horrible picture with people dead and many others injured. They had to act quickly to take the seriously injured to hospital, while also tending to others who were slightly hurt or visibly traumatized by what happened.

The Paqpaqli accident took place on 4 October 2015, when 26 people were injured, five of them critical, after the driver of a white Porsche 918 supercar performing in a motor-show in aid of charity skidded and went out of control, crashing through the barriers and ending up in the crowd.
