Civil society groups have filed a report at the Valletta police station to investigate the reports that emerged from the Daphne Project, particularly those closest to government, including Minister Chris Cardona.

This came after the group, which included CSN, Kenniesa, Occupy Justice, and Awturi, called for the immediate interrogation of Cardona, following allegations that he had met with one of the accused in the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia after the murder and prior to his arrest.

The group had initially called the protest in front of the Police Station in Valletta after MP Simon Busuttil had been summoned to explain why his car was used by activists to hang up posters regarding the investigation into the murder.

The police later informed Busuttil that he did not need to come for questioning.

Speak in front of the Police Station in Valletta, the group expressed dismay that the Labour Party's media had used Busuttil’s personal details (his number plate) to send out a clear message against the right to protest.

“The Police still decided to call in Simon Busuttil despite the fact that Christina Chetcuti (Busuttil's partner) had made it clear that she was the one who had used the car,” the group said.

“Rather than waste their time and resources, the police should look into the issues brought to light in the press.  The Police should bring Chris Cardona for an interrogation immediately.”

The group, who chanted 'Malta is not a normal country’ and 'justice’, placed placards asking the Police to call Cardona, with his mobile number attached, along with mock number plates.
