Rules governing the protection of online privacy have not kept up with evolving and sophisticated communication technology, Labour Party MEP Miriam Dalli said in her video vlog.
She discussed how the Socialist and Democrats party (S&D) which the PL are affiliated with have been pushing for online privacy reforms before the contentious stories surrounding massive data breaches at Facebook used by a company called Cambridge Analytica for dubious purposes.
Dalli described two particular Bills being pushed, one for general data protection which she described as important to stop personal data being used as a free resource by those who want to make money off it. This Bill is expected to be concluded in the coming weeks.
Dalli goes on to say that this will not be enough and must be accompanied by legislation regulating the confidentiality of all means of communication and not just personal data.
