Running supremos Charlton Debono and Lisa Bezzina ascertained their undisputed reign in the House of Sport 10k Series on Sunday when, together with another 320 runners, challenged the undulating Mdina - Dingli 10k route.

The newest route in the Series is deceptively tough with many undulating parts that slowly lead upwards to Dingli before heading back to Rabat in one loop.

For Debono, this win comes after a hectic weekend having been crowned Gozitan Athlete of the year as well as having won the 3000m race the previous day.  From the outset, Debono was out to seal another victory, taking charge immediately and continuing the pace until the end to win in a time of 33minutes 5 seconds. Second placed was Dillon Cassar, who  in his second outing for the Series, was just 25 seconds away from Debono.  Following his father's footsteps, veteran runner Rodney Cassar, he will potentially be one to watch.  Third place on the podium was taken up by Motassim Yusef Ali who clocked in 2 minutes and 33 seconds behind Debono and Cassar.

In the Ladies section, once again Lisa Bezzina took her usual determined stance to shake off competition from Josann Attard Pulis. Bezzina crossed the finish line in 38 minutes 5 seconds, whilst Attard Pulis had to settle for second place with a 30 second difference.  Gianella Bugeja completed the Ladies podium in third place in a time of 41 minutes 22 seconds.

"No one said it would be easy.  The House of Sport 10k Series have gained a reputation for some of Malta's most scenic yet challenging routes and from the reactions on participants' faces we know that we lived up to their expectations" commented Race Director Charlie Demanuele.  "Whilst our races have always been popular, we were surprised at the number of entries received - in fact our race sold out and we had people waiting until the last minute in the hope of securing a place!"

The House of Sport 10k Series is supported by Urban Jungle House of Sport, Starmax and emvigee pr & marketing. Electronic timing is provided by ARRTS through Agones SFC.  The organisers would like to thank Rabat and Dingli Local Councils and members of the Police Force who provided assistance throughout the event. Last but not least thanks are due to the medical team who stood by as well as the volunteers and marshalls present enroute.

The next race of the House of Sport 10k Series will take place on Sunday 2nd September in Burmarrad. Registrations will open shortly.
