A question to those advocating the IVF amendments

Sunday, 13 May 2018, 08:11 Last update: about 7 years ago

At what stage in the development of life in the womb, is the entity a human person? What is your view on the subject? Because this impinges significantly on what your future projects are.

I am sure you will propose the removal of this entity from the womb if it is found to be severely disabled. You will follow with euthanasia and full-blown abortion and continue sliding down the slippery slope. It seems that your philosophy is utilitarian and based on emotions only. Therefore, I presume that when the wind changes direction, you will sing a different tune according to what is popular and catchy.

Even if it’s hard to imagine that one cell or a few cells can be a human person, yet it has the potential to do so. Why are you rushing in where angels fear to tread and meddling in the mystery of life as if you are in a frenzy to change the face of Malta, when changes on all matters should be pondered upon and deliberated for a sufficient period of time? You are presenting it as something progressive which other countries had done long ago but are now facing dire consequences.

To have children is not an absolute right. There was much truth in the phrase that God gives us children. I find it ludicrous to look at it as making a child yourself.

Don't you think that this donation of embryos and surrogacy will open a can of worms for these children? You are showing your true colours: using deception to settle your agenda, which was not truly clear from the beginning. You use half-truths and then top everything with emotions that taunt, incite, instigate and anger people to achieve your ends. You have used this method in other areas, impoverishing Malta in the process. You should educate the people to be disciplined and be critical thinkers and not educate them to sell their souls for peanuts.
