Embattled Minister Konrad Mizzi has been named as honorary president of Hibernians FC, a premier league club.

The club announced that the decision was taken at the club’s annual general meeting.

Mizzi has been at the centre of political controversy for the past years following the revelation that he owned a company that was secretly opened in Panama.

He lost his place as Health and Energy Minister following the revelations, had to resign as Labour Party deputy leader, but was renamed minister, this time responsible for tourism, after the 2017 election.

He has faced numerous calls to resign since the publication of the Panama Papers.

Mizzi is a known supporter of the Hibernians FC club.
