St Mark's Priory: an architectural gem

Sunday, 10 June 2018, 08:09 Last update: about 7 years ago

Beauty has always enchanted many as it leads to higher things and so is St Mark's Priory of the Augustinians in Rabat, Malta. It is an architectural gem designed by Andrea Belli, while St Mark's Church, a prototype of the Co-Cathedral, is Girolamo Cassar's design.

During the year, several art, culture, faith and history events are held. In April last year, there was an open-weekend named The Augustinian Cloister - Vetustior Glorior, where the public was encouraged to visit St Mark's Priory and enjoy its beauty. There several different activities going on throughout the complex, such as fund-raising for the restoration work made from time to time at the Priory. It was a successful activity. Moreover, in December 2017 there was the Christmas Concert by St Monica Choir. During those events, revenue consisted of donations and sponsors, and after deducting expenses there was a surplus of €6,435.06. This amount was invested in architectural lighting on the lower corridors of the Priory which also serve as a meeting place between faith and culture.

Today, The Augustinian Cloister Foundation takes care of all this in order to spread culture, art and education, and to protect and preserve this architectural complex.
