Sophia Loren christens MSC Seaview before its maiden voyage to Malta

Screen icon Sophia Loren christened MSC Cruises' newest addition to the evergrowing MSC Cruises fleet and new flagship MSC Seaview, in a glittering ceremony in the port of Genoa. The christening ceremony was hosted by star of Italian TV, Swiss-born Michelle Hunziker who welcomed to the stage ‘father of Italian blues’ Zucchero Fornaciari who gave a concert on the top deck of Seaview.

Gianluigi Aponte, MSC Group’s founder and executive chairman Pierfransesco Vago welcomed  Sophia Loren on stage as she cut the ribbon to launch the bottle of champagne to name her 13th MSC Cruises newbuild.

The 5,119-passenger ship and 1413 crew members started its maiden voyage to Malta with 175 Maltese and Gozitan passengers who had the unique opportunity of joining the first sailing of this latest addition to MSC Cruises sailing to Naples, Messina  and will enter Malta’s Grand Harbour on Wednesday.

MSC Seaview flies the Maltese flag following a decision by MSC Cruises to register all its new cruise liners in Malta.
