Waterpolo, BOV Summer League: Neptunes notch first win against Valletta

Neptunes Leo Vegas began their campaign in the BOV Summer Premier League with a relatively easy 11-6 victory over Valletta VideoSlots. Jordan Camilleri was the star player for Neptunes netting five goals.

Valletta started strongly and took the first session which was a close affair through a fine goal by Charlie Zammit. However, Neptunes cranked up the tempo in the second session where they won 4-2 to reverse the scores. Jordan Camilleri scored twice in quick succession, the first from a man up before Charlie Zammit made it 2-2. Mathhias Azzopardi and Jordan Camilleri restored Neptunes two goal advantage before Ryan Mock reduced the deficit from a man up situation in the dying seconds to make it a one goal game at the change of ends.

Neptunes put the game to bed in the third session where they netted three goals without reply. Jordan Camilleri, Jeremy Abela and Petar Muslim scored for the Balluta side who went into the final session enjoying a 7-3 lead.

The fourth session was a spirited affair which Neptunes won 4-3. Jordan Camilleri scored at the start with Marton Toth making it 4-8.

Muslim made it 9-4 with Toth scoring his second goal a minute later to make it 9-5. Miguel Zammit and Jake Muscat added two more goals for Neptunes before Valletta had the last laugh through Marc Lanzon for a final score of 11-6.

Marsaxlokk record initial win against feisty Ta' Xbiex

Marsaxlokk Browns were given a considerable run for their money by Ta' Xbiex Amigos who had Nicola Dedovic and Liam Galea on top form each scoring four goals. For Marsaxlokk, veteran Ranier Scerri shone with a five-goal haul.

The first session ended 3-2 with the game seesawing from one side to another. Ranier Scerri and Brian Buhagiar scored for Marsaxlokk with Ta' Xbiex replying through a brace by Nicola Dedovic. The second session was a high scoring affair ending 5-3 in favour of Marsaxlokk. It seemed that the Southseasiders were running away with the encounter as they scored four goals courtesy of Scerri, Sean Meli and Stefano Luongo. However, Ta' Xbiex finally replied with goals from Benji Cachia and Liam Galea before Luongo added his second to close the halfway point three goals up for Marsaxlokk.

Ta' Xbiex took the third session 4-3 making a statement that they would be giving every team a good show this season. Michael Rizzo and Ranier Scerri scored for Marsaxlokk but Ta' Xbiex replied through Dedovic, Gerald Sammut and Liam Galea who scored another 2 goals to bring Ta' Xbiex to within just one goal. At the end of the session, Claudio Spiteri Debarro made it 11-9 for Ta' Xbiex.

The fourth session ended 2-2 with Marsaxlokk controlling affairs. Ranier Scerri and Luongo scored for the Southseasiders with Dedovic and Keith Tanti keeping Ta' Xbiex in the game till the end for a final score of 13-11 in Marsaxlokk's favour.
