The title of the first lecture is The revival of Africa: The blue economy as a major policy contributor to wealth creation and will be delivered by Ms Ramat Jalloh, a lawyer from Sierra Leone and an expert on maritime law, who currently lectures at the International Maritime Law Institute. The presentation will discuss how the implementation of the Integrated Maritime Strategy developed by the African Union can help generate prosperity in Africa. This will be considered in the light of the African Union’s development agenda that contemplates an Africa using its own resources to take its rightful place in a multi-polar, interdependent and more equitable world.

Professor Godfrey Pirotta, Professor of Government and Policy Studies from the Department of Public Policy, will moderate the session. Professor Pirotta is also Chairman of the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies and co-Chair of the Global Africa International Advisory Board. Dr Anne Marie Thake, Head of the Department of Public Policy, will introduce the proceedings.

Members of the public are invited to attend, and those wishing to do so may indicate their interest by writing to Shaun Micallef at [email protected]. The lecture will be followed by a reception, courtesy of Her Excellency, for all participants.
