Short-sighted decisions caused EU clampdown on trapping - PD

Partit Demokratiku said Malta's lack of good governance to be the prime reason for the banning of trapping in Malta.

Malta's weak environmental enforcement and policies by successive PL and PN governments has led to the EU clampdown, the party said in a statement. The final straw has been the indiscriminate concreting and building over our supposedly protected countryside, allowed by the present government.  The previous government is not blameless either. For example, the PN in 2006  gave the green light for building to an area six times the size of Siggiewi.

Birds tend to change their migratory paths when their potential habitats no longer accommodate them. It is common knowledge among trappers that the numbers of finches visiting our islands have fallen drastically in recent years probably also due to the systematic uprooting of trees.

As things stand, everybody is bearing the brunt of the action and inaction of consecutive power hungry PN and PL governments, whose interest has always been to snatch the people’s votes at all costs, including at the cost of shameful governance.
