Tennis: Mark Gatt wins silver, two bronze medals at European Senior Tennis Championships, Turkey

Last week Mark Gatt participated in the European Senior Tennis Championships at Ali Bey Manavgat in Turkey with some very good results amongst others beating the No2 seed and No26 in the world Bando from Poland 6/1 6/4 on clay in the scorching heat, temperatures reaching 37 degrees centigrade winning a bronze medal in the Over 40's singles event.

In the Men's doubles Over 40 event Mark and his partner David King from Ireland won their quarterfinal match 6/2 6/0 against two Rumanians, Dumitru Coman and Razvan loan Taras and then met No 2 Seeds Gerhard Fahlke former No1 in the World Over 40 and his German partner Matthias Muller-Seele with a sizeable crowd watching the match on Centre Court. Mark and his partner David King played an excellent first set pushing two very good German players all the way leading 5/4 and only losing the set on a deciding point 5/7 2/6 winning bronze in the process.

In the mixed doubles event Over 35 Mark and his partner Isabelle Bramhall from Great Britain were the No2 Seeds in this event and lived up to their billing when after receiving a bye in the first match  and then beating Ekaterina Sudnik from Belarus and her partner Olli Salminen from Finland 6/1 6/1 to reach the gold medal match. In the final  Mark and Isabelle played the No1 Seeds Mari-Liis Parmas from Finland and her partner Henrik Mueller- Frerich from Germany in a very close match with games being decided on a deciding point on eight occasions 2/6 4/6 resulting in a silver medal for Gatt and Bramhall.

After this event Mark has again risen in the World Rankings to No59 in singles Over 40, No31 in men's Doubles and No2 in mixed doubles.
