The 20-year-old Dutchman who was critically injured by a driver on the St Julian’s promenade last Friday has passed away in hospital, the police have confirmed. 

Tim Scholten lost his life after several medical interventions and treatment at Mater Dei hospital. 

Scholten was involved in an accident on Friday morning, when a 20-year-old Birkirkara youth lost control his vehicle at around 5am in Ġorġ Borg Olivier street in St Julians, ramming into the pavement, leaving a total of six people injured. 

The other victims included a 25-year-old Englishman, who was seriously injured, three Dutchmen and a British man, who were slightly injured, while two Croatian women escaped without injuries.

Scholten’s parents, who are currently in Malta, have decided to donate their son’s organs, TVM reports.

The driver is expected to be arraigned in the coming days.
