Studio 18 exploring anxiety through drama

Thursday, 12 July 2018, 16:01 Last update: about 7 years ago

Ringing phones. Increasing deadlines. Expectations. Decisions. Anxiety ‒ What is it? Where is it? How do we work with it? Anxiety seems to be a pertinent issue nowadays. It is estimated that approximately 10% of teenagers and 40% of adults suffer from an anxiety disorder of some kind (ADAA 2014).

As part of their fifth anniversary season, Studio 18 introduces practitioners Kostas Papamatthaiakis and Jonathan Tweedie whose combined repertoire features drama, movement and musical theatre. These theatre professionals will be working alongside mental health professional Sunaina Attard, who studied neuroscience and educational psychology.

The three days of workshops, running from 20 to 22 July, will be working towards empowering actors, educators, practitioners and young creatives to explore anxiety disorders, their triggers and their treatment.

In this light, Studio 18 is working in collaboration with the #StopStigma campaign that raises awareness about mental health.
