The deceiving undercurrent

Sunday, 15 July 2018, 08:22 Last update: about 7 years ago

The enactment of the recent IVF Bill was the culmination of a string of laws which strike a discordant note with our traditional Christian heritage. Therefore, whatever is said or done, it seems like crying over spilt milk but still I feel it incumbent upon me not to remain silent, as I have never been on these sensitive issues. Four years ago, I had written that same-sex partners’ legitimate rights are theirs and they are entitled to them, but any form of ‘marriage’ would only be a parody of what is purely natural, does not make sense and goes against the laws of God and nature. But who is John Azzopardi? He is an ordinary man in the street with no credentials, a total ignoramus.

I have been prompted by the present Pope pertinent remark: “When a need is noticed, even if the solution isn’t immediate (or seems impossible – my words) there is the need to start moving.” I am also heartened by the surprise news from Bermuda where, within the short space of six months, the Supreme Court’s legislation in favour of same-sex marriage was revoked by Parliament.

I might be enjoying Malta’s summer blue skies on our beaches, long sunny days relishing classic and operatic music and following the drama of the World Cup in my spare time or leading an ordinary stress-free life. However, a nagging feeling is disturbing my apparent peace of mind because there has been a crippling siege on our way of living and traditional family upholding the age-old Christian doctrine, which our children and future generations will find lacking.

“Have pity on us, O lord, have pity on us, for we are more than sated with contempt; Our souls are more than sated with the mockery of the arrogant, with the contempt of the proud” Psalm 122.

“Thou shalt not follow a multitude to the evil” Exodus 23:2.
