Thursday, 19 July 2018, 09:32 Last update: about 7 years ago

Relatives and friends paid their last respects to Hugo Chetcuti, who died last Thursday, six days after being stabbed in the stomach in one of his Paceville establishments.

The funeral cortege was driven through Paceville before it made its way to the Paola parish church where a Mass was held.

Chetcuti was stabbed on 6 July, and died in hospital six days later. A Serbian man, Bojan Cmelik, is charged with the murder.

A number of personalities and politicians, including Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi (below), attended.

The service was shown on a big screen installed on the church parvis.

At the end of the service, as the coffin was being taken out of the church, Frank Sinatra's song "My way" was played.

A number of doves were released before the funeral proceeded in private.
