The new initiative The National Food Drive was launched yesterday with President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca’s blessing.

Following the President’s call for “food justice” last week, an initiative being run by Green Skip Services Ltd with the support of The Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation, and a group of NGOs, has been launched in an effort to support food collection projects already in place.

Groups supporting this initiative are Foodbank Foundation, The Millennium Chapel, St Jeanne Antide Foundation, Little Sisters of the Poor, is-Sorijiet ta’ l-Ursolini, SOS Malta, and Caritas Malta, among many others.

Food Donation Boxes will also be placed at Smart Supermarket, PAVI, PAMA, LiDL Malta, Gala, Chain Supermarket Fgura, Carters Supermarket, Valyou Mellieħa, Valyou Naxxar, Scotts Supermarkets, Park Towers City, Park Towers Gourmet, Tower Supermarket u Greens Supermarket.

Green Skip Services Director Mary Gaerty spoke of the company’s 25th anniversary, where the idea to work on an initiative to give back to the community was discussed as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility.

Ms Coleiro Preca praised the initiative as it put Malta amongst other countries actively contributing to the UN’s goal in achieving the entity’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, and encouraged supermarkets and shoppers to contribute to this cause.
