Three emergency ambulance responders were assaulted this weekend whilst in the line of duty.

Charlton Caruana, one of the first responders present, described his experience in a post on social media. He described how he and his two colleagues were verbally and physically harassed as they tried carrying out their professional duties.

Caruana described it as “the worst ever scenario” during his seven years in the emergency department, further asking the public to respect their job as they do their best to give quality care with the resources they have available to them. Also, pointing out that ambulances should only be used in case of real emergencies and not as a “free taxi”.

He also thanked the three individuals who came to their rescue by pinning the aggressor to the ground, whilst also making sure the other patients are not harmed. Finally, he congratulated his two colleagues for their professionalism and great dedication in caring for their patients.

The Ministry for Health was contacted for comment regarding the incident but none was forthcoming by the time of going to print.
