Gozo and the northern part of Malta were hit by heavy rain and thunder on Sunday morning.

These weather conditions could persist until Monday, according to the Met Office.

The rain has come at a time when temperatures are well above 30 degrees and feel even higher.

Videos uploaded on Facebook show black skies over Gozo, with areas like Marsalforn experiencing mild flooding.

A video uploaded on the Gozo Weather Page on Facebook (main photo) shows the effect of soil that has been carried by rainwater into the Xwejni bay, clouding the seawater.  

The Malta Red Cross urged bathers to stay out of the water because of the lightning.
